Treatment Planning in Challenging Anatomic Sites with Straumann implants:

Planning starts with proper diagnostics

o Radiographs

o CBCT when necessary (always If the anatomy is unclear)

o Models (traditional or digital)

Thin Ridge or Narrow Space (Mx Laterals or Mn Incisors)

o 2.9 mm implant between 2 teeth

o Consider augmentation at the time of surgery.

o Mn Anterior consider 1 implant to replace 2 teeth.

o Consider FPD or Maryland bridge (Sometimes an implant is not the solution)

Sinus 8-10 mm of bone

o Use wider (4 mm, 5 mm, or 5.5 mm BLX implant) for stability.

o 8 mm implant can be standard without concern.

Sinus 5-7 mm bone

o Drill short of sinus floor.

o Consider Versah Burs for a sinus bump.

o Also consider drilling short and using BLX implant for sinus bump.

Sinus <5 mm

o Sinus elevation

o Simultaneous or delayed implant placement

Mandibular posterior ridge

o Consider 8 mm length implant for specific areas.

§ Good for abutment and crown

§ Avoid IAN or severe undercut.

o Consider 6 mm implant (5 mm or 5.5 mm – or wider)

§ Removable prosthesis

§ Locator or Novaloc attachments

§ Avoid IAN or severe undercut

This will be the AO event of the year!!
